June was busy—final grades submitted, my home items shipped to Ethiopia, an intense three-day video project edited and completed for the Art of Education’s NOW conference in August, packing things for my summer trip to Portugal and my first couple of months in Ethiopia, and saying goodbye to many friends in Beijing. I also participated in a two-person show at Joy Space in Beijing’s 798 district. Below is a brief excerpt from my artist statement for the show.

“Usually, I create immersive installations with costume, video, and large-scale photography. This new series of watercolors and photographs marks a shift. Though trained in painting, I don’t often work in 2D, but watercolor’s slow, subtle flow offers me calm.

In October 2024, I lost my cat Rigby, a dear companion who shaped my daily life. This collection is a personal tribute to the love and loss shared with my pets.”
